Alex Brand of Edinburgh - 8-day mid-18th century mahogany longcase clock, typical tall Scottish hood with a swans neck pediment and silk backed sound frets to the sides, break arch hood door and long trunk with a conforming trunk door, plinth with an oval fan inlay and raised on a shaped skirting, brass break arch dial with cast spandrels and a silvered boss to the arch with the makers name, plain unmatted dial centre with a silvered chapter ring, Roman numerals, five minute Arabic's, and later steel hands, dial pinned directly to a rack striking movement, sounding the hours on a cast bell. With weights and pendulum. Alexander Brand is recorded as free from apprenticeship in 1716 and dying in 1757. Made the clock in Magdalene Chapel.
