Every toy tells a story. Whether it’s the elegance of a 1960s fashion doll, the precision of a diecast model, or the imagination of comic book heroes, toys and models capture the spirit of their time. Our forthcoming Toys & Models Sale brings together a remarkable selection of pieces spanning the golden age of post-war toy production through to 21st-century collectables. From the playful charm of Barbie and Sindy to the mechanical mastery of Transformers and tinplate toys, this auction celebrates the enduring joy of collecting.

Icons of 1960's: Dolls with History

Few toys reflect mid-century glamour quite like Barbie. This sale features an exceptional collection of 1950s and 60s Mattel Barbie dolls, including the much sought-after bubble cut Barbie circa 1962, with coral lips, blue eyeliner, red swimsuit and signature earrings. Alongside her stands a Fashion Queen Barbie, complete with gold and white swimsuit, headscarf and interchangeable wigs, together with a Ken doll from 1961 dressed in his classic red-striped shirt and shorts.

Equally appealing to collectors of vintage British dolls is a 1963–64 Pedigree Sindy, wearing her iconic Lunch Date outfit. Introduced as “the doll you love to dress”, Sindy’s wholesome charm and British manufacture have made her a nostalgic favourite. Accompanied by original Pedigree clothing and accessories, this lot offers a delightful glimpse into the era when fashion dolls mirrored the elegance of everyday life.

Mechanical Marvels & Model Precision

The mechanical artistry of the 20th century is showcased through an exciting range of toys and models. Among the highlights is a Tipp & Co tinplate clockwork motorcycle, model T686, finished in dark blue with cream Dunlop cord wheels and an orange-clad rider. Its fine detailing and smooth function capture the quality of pre-war German production. Another standout is a Corgi no. 256 Volkswagen 1200 East African Safari, boxed and complete with rhinoceros figure and inner display - an adventurous design that typifies Corgi’s inventive 1960s spirit. Collectors of science-fiction memorabilia will enjoy the Product Enterprise Gerry Anderson Japanese issue Thunderbirds model kits.

Moving forward in time, a trio of Takara Tomy Transformers Masterpiece figures, MP-10 Convoy, MP-8X King Grimlock and MPM-8 Megatron, demonstrate modern engineering and nostalgia in perfect balance. Each is boxed and well-preserved, making them as appealing to new fans as to long-time Transformers collectors.

Completing the section is a charming Steiff limited edition Einstein bear, a jointed blonde mohair figure complete with grey moustache, knitted waistcoat and button-in-ear. Limited to 1,905 pieces and boxed with its certificate, it combines humour, artistry and Steiff’s impeccable craftsmanship.

Comic Book Legends

Comics are more than paper and ink; they are cultural history. This sale presents an impressive selection of over 130 vintage Marvel comic books, spanning the Bronze Age of the 1970s and early 80s. Among the highlights are forty-seven issues of The Mighty Thor (1972-1978), fifty issues of The Incredible Hulk (1969-1986), and forty mostly Bronze Age Fantastic Four comics (1969-1981). Each lot is carefully bagged, with many card-backed for preservation. Also featured are twenty-four issues of Alpha Flight, including early numbers that trace the origins of this Canadian superhero team.

Together these collections document Marvel’s most creative period, an age when larger-than-life storytelling and striking artwork defined the comic medium.

From elegant fashion dolls and finely engineered models to heroic comic books and whimsical bears, this sale celebrates the artistry and imagination that have defined generations of play. Whether rediscovering a cherished childhood favourite or adding a missing piece to a lifelong collection, bidders will find a wealth of nostalgia and craftsmanship to explore.

Bidding ends Thursday 13 November from 11AM.
