We are delighted to announce a studio sale, as part of our upcoming Fine & Affordable Art Sale at Duggleby Stephenson, celebrating the life and work of Barry De More. This rare opportunity allows collectors to acquire pieces from the late artist, hailed as 'one of the North's greatest expressive artists.'
Barry De More, originally from the Isle of Guernsey, moved to West Yorkshire as a child. Though he began painting early, it wasn’t until the 1970s that he pursued it seriously, teaching himself and drawing inspiration from artists like Sickert, Van Gogh and Turner. Initially focused on traditional, representational art, Barry later embraced a more expressive style after studying Fine Art at Bradford School of Art.
His work evolved under the influence of Expressionism, using a distinctive heavy impasto technique, often applied with kitchen knives, to capture the essence of Yorkshire’s landscapes and people. He sought to transform everyday scenes into something more meaningful, painting not just what he saw but what he felt.
Barry’s art was widely exhibited in Yorkshire and Lancashire, and his work is held in private collections both in the UK and abroad. He continued to refine his style until his passing, leaving behind a rich legacy of paintings and drawings that reflect his passion for capturing life’s energy and movement.
